Van Gogh, Gauguin and Cézanne should be considered as leaders designating the development directions of contemporary art movements and senses of art. Prof. Mümtaz Sağlam is examining the transformation in the field of plastic arts in consideration of the social events, cultural atmosphere and thinking life of the period and reevaluating the process dating to the 1940s in an esthetic context.

Prof. Mümtaz Sağlam graduated from the Department of Painting, Buca Faculty of Education of Izmir Dokuz Eylul University in 1984. He completed “Master’s Degree and Art Qualification” programs in the Art Painting Department, Institute of Social Sciences of the same university. He was awarded with professor title in Art Painting Department in 2002. He is currently commissioned as the Head of Art Painting Department, Faculty of Fine Arts and the Director of the Institute of Fine Arts of Izmir Dokuz Eylul University. Prof. Sağlam, being known with his critical writings in addition to his art studies, had writings published on the art of painting in magazines such as Milliyet Sanat, Gösteri, Gençsanat, Cumhuriyet Kitap, Sanat Dünyamız, Mimarlık, Skala, Artist, Rh+ Sanart and in Cumhuriyet Gazetesi newspaper. Sağlam also has book writing studies and has also been the curator of many exhibitions at home and abroad.
