HE WAS A STAR

NACİ KALMUKOĞLU EXHIBITION

20 January 2013 – 28 April 2013

“He was a star. But in order to see his brightness, one had to lift his head and look around.”
Mahmut Cuda (1904-87)

Naci Kalmukoğlu—one of the most prominent names in Turkey’s history of painting—is an important representative of the community often called “Painters of the Lost Generation”, as defined by Celal Binzet in reference to artists who emigrated to Turkey after the 1917 Revolution; almost a 100 paintings of different techniques, materials, and themes are exhibited in this retrospective exhibition.
