MUHARREM KAYHAN COLLECTION

“Testimonies of Anatolian Antiquity: Muharrem Kayhan Collection” exhibition opens a window onto Anatolia in Antiquity through Muharrem Kayhan Collection, which is one of the most important private collections in Turkey.
Approximately 300 historic objects and 500 coins are brought together in the exhibition; the collection focuses on Caria and Ionia during the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic eras.
The coins, which are the most important part of the collection, and some of which are the only examples in the world, expose the development of coinage starting with the Lydian Kingdom. The coins from the Archaic Era are exhibited on such a scale for the first time, providing researchers with an important opportunity.
In addition to the coins, terracotta, bronze, marble and glass objects that were used in daily life and that reveal the quotidian living of the day are also exhibited. Archaic era, necropolis, Caria, Ionian cities, cult objects, gods and goddesses, domesticity, women and animals serve as themes in which the collection is arranged offering the viewers an opportunity to discover life in Antiquity.
